At MADISON, our most successful relationships have been built on partnerships and trust earned through our Brand building and Sales driven work.
I have had the fortune of starting my sales career in the media industry, first radio then broadcast TV, working for an NBC affiliate. It’s where I learned the most valuable skills:
“Be a Great Listener. Take copious notes.”
The media industry is exceptionally competitive, often labelled as “cut throat”. I found two amazing mentors who taught me to be tenacious when selling an intangible, which added more complexity to an already challenging career choice.
Learning how to move past rejection and closed doors, staying optimistic that there will ALWAYS be an opening to walk through, has been my success story.
I love people and most important, I thrive when I am able to serve others. I started as an account executive hunting new business, eventually working my way up to a National Sales Manager with 25 direct reports across the US. After 17 years of 100% commission-based sales, I moved on to start a marketing company with one of my mentors. Afterwards, she retired and I renamed the company MADISON Ad, enjoying this creative work but only on a part-time basis.
Seeking new opportunities to sharpen my skills, in 2010, I joined a small family-owned facilities management company, which would later be acquired by a manufacturer. I used the hunter sales skills from my media days to earn a “seat at the table” from Business Development, to Sales Manager, and finally as Director of National Accounts and Architectural Support. The most rewarding part of this industry is the “teamwork” that goes into creating a brand, sketching the design, and constructing a national retailer’s vision with service after the sale.
Evolving personally and professionally I have learned the skill of being “self-aware.” That said, I may become l…o…n…g winded at times. I won’t apologize.
Being a great listener, taking copious notes, and articulating a business owners value proposition to consumers, takes more than one bullet point.
You can't know where you're going
if you don't know where you've been.
Your Brand is a perception and that perception is reinforced every time you touch your market. To be effective you must create a unified brand experience that will…….
Inspire, Differentiate, and Connect your business to your consumer.
Kim made a lasting impact on other participants in my Total Leadership Connections program. In all the years we have done this program, this level of respect for a fellow student is rare. Kim showed her skills in sales and marketing by mentoring many of the women simply as a favor to help them in their own organizations.
As our part-time marketing leader for the past 17 years, Kim has built up our brand by expertly articulating our story and mission, and creating consistent messaging and awareness. She facilitated the design of our new logo, now widely recognized in Northeastern, PA. through print, television, billboards, and home magazines. Kim’s creativity has more than tripled our business all while holding her to a very conservative budget over the years.
In my position of Adult Education Moderator at Career Technology Center, I was fortunate to work with Kim on various projects helping promote adult education programs. She designed our promotional brochure for Spring and Fall registrations advertising course offerings for our welding, nursing, carpentry, and computer technology classes. In addition, she developed promotional materials for an Honors Program. As a current Continuing Educational leader at Temple University, I can say that the promotional planning and materials Kim developed were every bit as effective as those at Temple. Kim’s professional attitude in our working relationship is exceptionally impressive.
